January 21st, 2012Insight Menswear for Summer
December 4th, 2011
Ah we have finally set up a wee Guys corner in Atamira in a cool retro wardrobe courtesy of Insight- because its stacked with cool Insight guys wear for summer… like boar dies, shorts, tees and singlets.
As this is our first foray in Menswear we hope that we have handpicked out just the best pieces (its actually a lot harder than it looks!), and I’ve measured out the right dose of conservative with cool…. fingers crossed the wardrobe is bare at the end of summer!
Balmy days … bring on the swimwear
November 2nd, 2011
Ooo the weather is getting warmer, we have had some real balmy days here in Raglan which feels kinda tropical. I love it!
Warm summer makes me feel alive, cant wait for beach days, Sunday Sessions at the Yot Club and swimming. Atamira has a great small range of Insight, Tigerlily and One Teaspoon bikinis and Jets swimwear to get you in the mood.
Insight do fantastic prints, One Teaspoon have an indie, rock style with lots of stripes, leather and 70′s feel going on, Tigerlily have gone for an eclectic indo/mexican holiday feel. … All very hot!
**My one tip would be get in quick as the top sellers go so fast and usually are sold out (so once they are gone, they are gone).
enjoy the sunshine peoples x
Fresh Summer Collections and Music to boot
September 18th, 2011
As the Summer fashion flys instore, our music collection feels like spring too – fresh and upbeat. I loved that Kathryn Wilson had Kimbra play at her fashion week show – what a quirky and ultra talented NZ musician. Hence we are loving Kimbras debut album – Vows, as well as a handful of new finds to compliment the spring air. Check out our Kathryn Wilson wedges which include a neutral classic style and also a punchy bright. I am most excited about our swimwear too – Insight and Tigerlily which will be added to our racks in the near future (just ask to have a look if you are instore and we will wheel them out).
Got to love Spring and Summer … I definetly am a warm person so cant wait!
Rabia’s gemstone mala’s
August 22nd, 2011
Got to love spring in the air, glorious blue sky days and sunshine… its infectious!
I’m into the spring clean mode starting on myself – fresh carrot, beet & ginger juices, more yoga and trying to get in as many sunsets and beach walks as I can.
I enjoy the seasonal change and freshness in atamira too as winter sale pieces disappear and spring/ summer collections arrive instore … including the best Insight swimwear (still a little too early for this I feel).
This new beautiful collection of gemstone Mala’s by Rabia are illuminating our jewellery cabinet too.
Rabia is a New Zealand designer living in Bali who weaves gem and chakra properties in her collection. Most are adorned with a brass, silver or gold lotus or skull and compliementary silk thread. In this day and age crystal and gemstones are becoming more widely used for their illuminating properties to help and enhance the positive way we deal with things in our lives. Much of Atamira’s jewellery range is gemstone based, its an area I appreciate and has an inherant integrity.
Properties such as Onyx to balance and ground; moonstone to balance our emotional states and enhance gentler feminine/yin side; rose quartz for lovingness and self-love; turquoise for protection and communication …
I will endeavor to add these online soon…

A beautiful winter soltice … and Matariki
June 20th, 2011
Today is winter soltice and a beautiful beach day in the paradise of Whaingaroa, Raglan…. see!
Winter soltice is the shortest day of the year … does that mean we are on the downhill to summer?
It is also the time of Matariki, maori new year. Matariki is the Māori name for the small cluster of stars known as the Pleiades or Seven Sisters constellation. When it rises in the north-eastern skies in late May or early June, it signals to Māori that the New Year will begin.
Matariki literally means the ‘eyes of god’ (mata ariki) or ‘little eyes’ (mata riki). Some say that when Ranginui, the sky father, and Papatūānuku, the earth mother were separated by their offspring, the god of the winds, Tāwhirimātea, became angry, tearing out his eyes and hurling them into the heavens. In one tradition, Matariki is the mother surrounded by her six daughters.
For all Māori it was a time to celebrate seasonal fertility and remember those who had passed.
Wishing much aroha and Matariki blessings to you for the maori new year x
French music is super sexy… so frenchy so chic
May 21st, 2011
Our curated selection of music has just grown abit more french lately, we have adored the acoustic first album of Carla Bruni since opening and lately indugled in Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin lusty sounds. I discovered quirky french/brazilian covers band Nouvelle Vague from a friends collection and lately Emille Simon’s ‘Big Machine’ has been gracing our stereo as has Lykee Li, Ladi 6, Maisey Rika, Florence & the machine and Australian brother sister duo Angus & Julia Stone… oh and So Frenchy So Chic.
Theres nothing like beautiful music to change your mood and brighten up a grey day… a must to vaccum with on opening Atamira – great feng shui.
Some of our selection is here online too.
Mishka wedge – Winter’s new Wonderwomen heel!
May 10th, 2011
Wonderwomen would have loved this winters ‘Mishka’ , feel ten feet tall and elegantly industructible in this slim wedge heel by Chaos & Harmony.
We love the warm Tan and brass with aged dark brown leather detailing on these shoes, looks great with Navy tights and your favourite big knit.
New Zealand design duo of Chaos & Harmony have taken inspiration for this winter from the Russian Tsar era. I am fond of the slim elegance in this range that will add stunning length to your legs.
Pleating is beautiful, feminine and floaty in NZ that means Juliette Hogan.
April 6th, 2011
New Zealand fashion designer Juliette Hogan was on to a winner when she introduced pleating as a staple to her collections 3 years ago.
Beautiful, feminine and floaty, pleating is a very current trend this season that remains to be a classic. We think there is something special about pleated dresses and skirts that takes you back to days of elegance and grace.
We love this little ‘cocktail’ Swing tunic with a collar detail for winter 2011. Its most beautiful in Nude or Vintage Floral, play around and wear with your favourite chuck taylors …or classy heels.
